Brixton Bob out-take

Found this floating around my computer today. Meant to be a long, single-take shot in the middle of Brixton Bob (wherein Bob shoots a line of crab-pots), it didn't quite come off. The line broke and we lost the whole lot. No more time and no more pots to get the whole thing again.

The shot was in the first 12-minute cut of the film (we ended up on 7 minutes dead), but we ended up losing it as... well, it just didn't fit with the pacing. It just held us up in getting where we were going. If I'd had a bunch of other shots of similar length and style I might have been able to get some balance into the cut, but on its own it stood out like a short thumb. "It's a great shot, but not for this film," said editor Derek Holland. And I agreed with him. Up to a point - we had one go at the shot and it kind of fell apart towards the end. The pots hadn't been correctly lined up and one snagged. We lost the rest. It would have taken an hour to recover them (at least), and another half hour to do the shot again. We just didn't have that time. Ah well.
